Site UPdate: New My Messages and My Network Functionality

We have just added new and improved functionality to the My Messages and My Network parts of the UPworld site!

Now when you login and click on My Messages, you will see a new Inbox layout that functions like a webmail application. You can highlight messages, change their status to read and unread, and delete multiple messages at once. We have also added a new Block feature that allows you to block another member from contacting you on the network. We recommend that you only block persons that are obviously abusing the system with spam. To manage your blocked list, look for the new Blocked tab under My Messages.

We have also improved the design and layout of all messages that are sent through the UPworld network. When you Send a Message to another member, you can either add your own subject line or just choose from 1 of 4 predefined subject lines. Options include “I found your profile on the network and would like to introduce myself,” “I would like to approach you about a professional opportunity,” “I would like to offer you my services,” and “I would like to learn more about your services.” If you would like a new subject line added to this list, please email us your suggestions.

The My Network feature has also changed dramatically! Now you can sort your professional network by First Name, Last Name, Join Date, City, or Industry in either ascending or descending order. You can also announce a new job, share an event, or report on a change in your professional life to everyone in your network at once by clicking on the Send an UPdate link on your main My Network page.

Most importantly, you can now better manage your Invites by the addition of these new page tabs: Invites Received, Invites Sent, and Invite New Members. Any invites you receive to join another member’s network will now arrive in your Invites Received box where you can either Accept, Delete, Reject, or Block the Invite directly. Any Invites you send out to other members will be logged on the Invites Sent page. All Invites can now be Previewed before the Invite is sent out.

All Messages and Invites now also include all the information on your mini-profile, so if you haven’t yet added a picture of yourself to your profile, please do! When browsing profiles, you can now also Invite or Send a Message to multiple members at once by clicking on the checkbox next to each member’s mini-profile and then clicking on the Send or Invite button at the bottom of the page.

Also, if you invite a new person to UPworld and they accept your invitation using the same email, they will be automatically added to your network. To invite new members to join now, just visit the My Network page and click on the Invite New Members tab.
